Each centre keeps its own clock, so the gaps between them shift twice a year as daylight saving starts and ends on different dates. The panel above converts all four to your device's time zone.
Worked example
London and New York are both open for about four hours in the London afternoon. That overlap carries the heaviest volume of the day on EUR/USD, GBP/USD and gold.
When does the forex market open and close?
It runs without a break from Sunday evening to Friday evening New York time, and is shut over the weekend. Any single centre is open for roughly nine hours of each weekday.
Which session is the most active?
London, and the London to New York overlap most of all. The Asian session is quieter and tends to range, which suits a different kind of setup.
Does the market close for holidays?
Individual centres close for their own public holidays, and liquidity thins even where trading technically continues. The last two weeks of December are the thinnest of the year.
